In The High Court For The Last Time
The plaintiffs met their legal team for the last time in May 1991.
For a decade they'd worked together for a chance to persuade the High Court that the Meriam people continued to hold traditional native title rights to the Murray Islands.
Seven High Court judges began hearings later that month; the last round of the epic battle had begun.
Its intensity bore testimony to the importance of the legal principles in dispute.
