Land Bilong Islanders: Mabo
More Information
The Murray Islanders believed they had a very strong case to put to an Anglo-Australian court.

They maintained an inherited land ownership system and the land had identifiable boundaries.

They also observed an indigenous property law which decreed; "keep to your own place".

And they had kept the Murray Islands largely to themselves since the mid 1880s.
