'I don't think through most of the time I knew him that he had any regular employment or income beyond Social Security. He held a lot of political positions, you know, the Aboriginal Legal Service, Chairman of the Black Community School, those sorts of jobs don't marry themselves very well with actual paid employment. He was effectively a full time Indigenous politician, all jobs which are expected to be done for nothing.'
