'When we moved to Townsville he got a job down at the Harbour Board, he was working on a tug boat as a deckhand and that's when he really got involved with the unions, he used to go and listen to the Labor Party speeches and he had a few friends in the Labor Party and he became really interested in politics, you know like party politics and he'd go to all these meetings.'
